Winner of the Weird Links Contest
We’ve come to an end of our lovely weird links contest and it’s now my responsibility to share the links, the winners and all that good stuff.
There were 5 total links submitted, ranging from seriously just bizzare to exceptionally disturbing. Personally, I liked them all. Since there can be only winner though, I have chosen the one that not only has some of the most pointless and strange, yet wannabe political, content I have ever seen, it also has the distinction of having one of the most stupid and just bizzare URLs ever. Honestly, it was a close call and having that domain address helped it pull into the lead. So without further ado, I give you the winner, “Arnold Sailormoongger” submitted by Naskar. You now are the proud owner of a copy of Choke.
I Dub Thee Sir Penguin
This little guy, Nils Olav, has officially been knighted by the Norwegian army. That’s the cutest thing ever.
Because We Need More Hoaxes
I thought I’d remind you that there are still scammers lurking about trying desperately to show you crazy monsters and big foots. I know the internet has made the spread of information amazing and crazy now, but that doesn’t mean you should go spreading lies. I feel a new mythology coming alive thanks to the miraculous ability of people to spread great forgeries faster than ever.
Oh, and just so you know, there’s a Nigerian banker trying to get a hold of you. Since he has your inheritance.
Thanks Neatorama.
Baboon Teaching Kitty to Sit
Neatorama posted this first, but it’s so cute I can’t pass it up. National Geographics archieve has this photo and story and it’s so cute and silly.

SITTING KITTY
A patient little cat endures lessons in baboonery. According to notes accompanying the photograph—which arrived at the Geographic in 1956 but was never published by the magazine—”Baboon mother tries to make Fluffy sit up like a good monkey baby. But the kitten always falls back on her four legs. It seems like such a hopeless case.” The baboon, named Helen, was an attraction at Ross Allen’s Reptile Institute, a roadside zoo funded in 1929 in Silver Springs, Florida. She may have been a holdover from the days when Tarzan movies were filmed in the region and Allen provided animal actors for visiting Hollywood productions. —Margaret G. Zackowitz
Weird Link Contest #1
Time for the second contest ever here at RTD. This time, it’s a weird link contest. You have a week to submit the link to the weirdest site via the “submit a link” tab, in the comments section here or via email toadmin@ruethedayblog.com. The winner will receive Choke, written by Chuck Palahniuk, author of Fight Club. And one random participant who also signs up for the RSS feed will win a random cd of my choice…how exciting.
Be sure to include your REAL email address so I can contact you if you win.
All links I like will get featured on RTD and the winner will be chosen exclusively by me mwahahahaha. If things go well, we’ll do this again.
Dogville Shorts
At Comic Con, I was lucky enough to be introduced to the brilliance that is the Dogville shorts. These “Barkies” are hilarious, perhaps animal abuse, but hey…it was the 20’s. You won’t believe how cute the costumes are, particularly on some of the girl dogs. They actually have plots. Bad plots for the most part, but the adorable dogs with decent enough plots actually make them worth watching. Plus, I’ve decided they are the ultimate party/bar films for something that people will look up at and say “WTF,” without actually stopping to watch the screen for too long.
These short films using dogs as actors were collected and compilled into one bootleg DVD that you can buy from this site. I’m not trying to sell these to you, but I will say this DVD was the best thing I bought at the comic con and that’s the only place I can seem to find them for sale.
