From Rio to Detroit, the recession has resulted in a lot of fabulous skyscrapers being left as scraps. Many of these buildings are gorgeous, sterling examples of architecture from long ago now inhabited by nothing but ghosts.

I find Detroit to be one of the most fascinating places in the States. It was a huge, rich city and is now like a third-world country right here in our own states. The Times has a fantastic photo gallery of Detroit buildings in decline. They are beautiful, and throughly depressing. I highly recomend you check them out.
20 Amazing Abandonded Places
You may or may not know that I love the whole concept of “urban exploring” or searching through abandonded places. Weburbanist seems to be as well, as they are frequent posters of abandoned places. This new collection has some really stunning images from twenty different abandoned sites in Europe. I think my favorite is Cheateau Noisy In Belgium.
Keeping up with my obsession of posting all the cool abandoned places posts I find on the net, here’s a great one from Web Urbanist featuring 15 war-related ruins. The mansion in Talisay City is stunning, I wanna go there and play.
20 MORE Abandoned Buildings & Places
I’m a little obsessed with these buildings & places that have been forgotten about. Maybe I’m just trying to push my inner urban explorer to check out the abandoned psychiatric facility and the crumbling amusement park around my neck of the woods. This set has some really good ones, so go check them out.
Some New Deserted Places
Some of them have been shown here before, but most of these are new.
I think my favorite is the “futuristic resort” (left) in Taiwan. They supposedly are haunted by those who died in their creation, making them one of the
few that really lives up to the “ghost town” name.
The one on the right is one of the more famous modern distaster zones -Chernobyl. Those living here had to leave pretty much all their possessions behind after the “accident.”
I’ve just discovered a ton of posts on WebUrbanist featuring abandoned towns, buildings and more. The pictures are incredible and the stories behind some of them are just plain insane.
Russia, Europe, the US, Africa, and Asia are all included. It’s pretty nutso.
