Here at Rue The Day, we’re big fans of photography of abandoned places. That’s why we’re happy to add on to the gallery with this collection of images from an abandoned castle featured on Mental Floss.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine of Poland now hosts a gorgeous chapel and restaurant made completely of salt, with the exception of the electrical wiring and wooden support beams. Even the chandeliers are salt.
Tama, the station kitty, is no longer the only animal employee of the Japanese railroad, now two monkeys share the honor.
Ice Hotels and Bars Around The World
As the weather starts to cool down for the season, it’s time to start thinking about your winter holidays, particularly if you want to go to one of these exclusive ice venues this winter.
If you love male genitalia, the Icelandic Phallological Museum better be on your list of places to see before you die. The museum doesn’t just have animal penises, but it also features imagined peni of characters such as Grover. For more disturbing museum articles, check out this Cracked article.
Frozen Aquarium Chills Out Japan
Japan’s been having a much hotter than average summer and on top of offering frozen underwear at porn shops, they’ve also took to a frozen aquarium to cool off. How do fish survive in a frozen aquarium? Well, they don’t really, but they are flash frozen in a life-like state. It’s so cool in the aquarium that guests are even given blankets to keep warm during their stay.
Here’s a thought, if you work for a police agency that specializes in air travel, don’t test your screeners by using real explosives planted on unwitting tourists. The Slovakian air police did just this and one of the eight explosives was not detected and the poor Irish tourist was arrested near the end of his journey. It wasn’t until three days later that the Slovak police got in touch with their Irish counterparts and told them to let the man out of jail.
Researchers have revealed that your chances of getting on a plane that has a potential terrorist are far far lower than your chances of getting struck by lightning. “Therefore, the odds of being on given departure which is the subject of a terrorist incident have been 1 in 10,408,947 over the past decade. By contrast, the odds of being struck by lightning in a given year are about 1 in 500,000,” says FiveThirtyEight.
Meanwhile, the TSA is taking even greater steps to destroy anyone’s desire to ever get on an airplane or ever travel to the U.S. again. They want to prevent any electronic devices from being in the cabin during international flights into the U.S. Everyone will be patted down before boarding, and, you also cannot get up during the last hour of the flight or even use a blanket during this last hour. You tell me, is there really any level of risk we should give up these rights for?

Who wants to drink horse placenta? Oh me me me!!! Ok, not really, at all. But apparently there are some people in Japan who do. Supposedly that black one pictured is the more potent version.
Now why someone would want to drink this. Aside from it’s delightful flavor (sure) it has an amazing list of health benefits, or so it claims. Some of its effects include skin whitening, headache and canker sore cures, lighter menstrual cramps, decreased sensitivity to cold, and an increase in hunger.
Obviously this is Japanese, as Americans want things to reduce their hunger and want to darken their skin. But I’m still disturbed that anyone in their right mind would want to eat a placenta, let alone drink it like a soda.Oh, and the price makes it even better. It’s supposed to be a daily treatment regimen, but the orange flavor costs $50 per bottle and the black is $100 a bottle.
Hand me a cucumber soda any day, but a placenta drink, I think I’ll pass. Surprisingly though, I may be alone, they’re already sold out of the black flavor.
The Destruction Of Detroit
I find Detroit to be one of the most fascinating places in the States. It was a huge, rich city and is now like a third-world country right here in our own states. The Times has a fantastic photo gallery of Detroit buildings in decline. They are beautiful, and throughly depressing. I highly recomend you check them out.
